Most people truly do not realize how their personal food choices are affecting their health. Today nutrition information is readily available at your fingertips. Many bloggers brought to the consumers information about “azodicarbonamide”, a chemical used in many bread products to increase bread volume and improve texture. Through education the companies using this product, such as, Subway, McDonalds, Starbucks, and Arby’s are forced to make a decision. Remove the chemical or contend with criticism. You have a decision too. Either take responsibility for what you eat or don’t.

This chemical is one of many. The chemicals that are used in processed foods and foods grown in areas where GMOs are used, crops soaked with pesticides and her bicides will affect your health. By now I am sure you know that poor health and all disease are a result of inflammation. So what is inflammation? Inflammation is the outcome of many things but since we are talking about food, then inflammation results from eating cheap and processed foods.

Foods that are cheap are typically on the inside aisles of your grocery stores. Most people shop for price versus quality. This is where the “pay me now or pay me later” marketing slogan should help reveal a truth. Let’s take Campbell’s chicken noodle soup.

Foods containing MSG have been associated with causing:

  • Headache
  • Flushing
  • Sweating
  • Facial pressure or tightness
  • Numbness, tingling or burning in the face, neck and other areas
  • Rapid, fluttering heartbeats (heart palpitations) Chest pain Nausea
  • Weakness

Campbell’s soup is only one example. However soup is frequently on sale and since Chicken Noodle soup is thought “to be good for you” many consumers stock up. Now we must go one step further. Our globe has moved from fresh to industrialize. Industrialization equates with sustainability. This Campbell soup can is lined with epoxy which is made in part with BPAs. What is BPA? BPA is a coating to keep food from having direct contact with its container. This practice has been around since 1960. Some research has shown that BPA can seep into food or beverages from containers that are made with BPA. Exposure to BPA is a concern because of possible health effects of BPA on the brain, behavior and prostate gland of fetuses, infants and children.

So what does this have to do with you and your nutrition? Everything! It’s the timeline that I would like to discuss. Several years ago I came across a research article whose outcome changed the focus of my practice. The conclusion stated: “if you were over 30 years old, you were more likely to receive adult onset diagnosis in one of the six areas”. The six areas are: diabetes, autoimmune, endocrine, depression, obesity, and/or cancer. “If you were under 30, there is a higher risk that you have a neurological or delayed or altered development”.

It is interesting because this is exactly what I see in practice. One in six children have an altered development and adults, younger and younger have compromised health. These diseases do not just happen one day, they are progressive and typically take years to manifest into a diagnosis. However, if your health is subpar and if you are either trying to conceive or have conceived, you are passing your subpar health onto your children. Genetics versus epigenetics.

So what does this have to do with soup and cans? While this is only one example of what can cause an epigenetic change, the impact is real. The research I was referring to was written almost 20 years ago. (The early 1990s) Health patterns seen today were taking shape then. The rise in Autism began in the 1980s and has been increasing ever since.

In order for you to take responsibility of health you need information. You cannot simply guess “what” to do. Success comes from education. Personal story:

Over seven years ago I felt like I was starting to become easily fatigued and agitated. I had several lab tests performed. My results were hypothyroid, LOW cholesterol (which is just as dangerous as high cholesterol), and heavy metal toxicity. I worked on many areas. The most profound impact that started a healthy cycle followed when I had a tooth removed from an old root canal procedure. I had a metal pin, surrounded by silver mercury amalgam, and then capped. I was a human battery.

Removing these toxins was the push to start my health continuum to swing upward. There must be a pattern changer. Most of what I was working on at the time was only hitting the surface from the damage created by the toxicity. Remove the cause and the rest will change. The second major impact was raising my cholesterol. As a globe, we have been lowering cholesterol. Cholesterol gets a very bad name and it is needed.

This pathway is responsible for many bodily functions. Are you beginning to see the connections? Functional labs identify what the human needs based on the known functional level that is required. The human has not changed!!! Therefore our needs on a physiological level have not changed. However, today medical labs are changed every year. The within normal limit (WNL) is changed based on who took the lab the year before and what the averages were. So we are compared to averages.

Cholesterol should be 160 mg/dl – 200 mg/dl and now the WNL is reduced to 130-160. This is low cholesterol and that is a simple truth. I know that labs are not cheap but this is your health. So how am I doing now? I feel younger now than I did when I started this process many years ago. My cognitive ability continues to strengthen. My excess weight is coming off and I truly feel balanced. My updated labs indicate my health and nutrition has greatly improved.
