Frequently Asked Questions
What Is Connect My Brain?
Connect My Brain is a brain-based center, and we work to bring health to the entire body. So, it’s about really looking
at how a human being works. You are a physical body. You’re a chemical body, and you have this brain.
So, our program details out mechanical, chemical, and the brain. That way, we can take care of the whole person, not just part and parcel.
Do You Accept Insurance?
Connect My Brain accepts all forms of payments, as well as, Care Credit.
We do not file insurance for you. However, we can generate an insurance receipt that you can then submit to your insurance provider.
The receipt contains insurance service codes, office visit dates, diagnosis codes, plus other information typically required on an insurance receipt. You will submit this receipt and your carrier will reimburse you directly. We recommend that you confirm the insurance process and benefit availability with your specific provider. Connect My Brain can give you typical service codes used in our program.
What To Expect When You First Visit Connect My Brain
Coming to Connect My Brain you might have some questions. So we’d like to take an opportunity and share some thoughts with you. So what do you expect when you come to Connect My Brain for the very first time? Well, depending upon if you’re coming in for neurofeedback, or developmental care, or the nutritional program, everything starts with the consult. We want to sit down, get to know you, figure out everything that you’re concerned about, what you’ve already tried to do, what was successful and what wasn’t. And then our approach is to zoom in on the root cause of why you’re not getting the kind of progress that you’re really expecting, from whatever program that you’ve been trying in the past.
What Is A Developmental Program?
So what is the developmental program? I am not a labeler. I get a lot of people who come in and their child has been diagnosed ADD, ADHD, dyslexia, OCD, so many different labels. I don’t label because I have learned in 24 years about development, and development is a sequence of events.
When you’re born, you are fully formed, but you are not fully functioning. You must go through stereotypical movements in order to wire up the brain. So what do these little babies do? They move. They begin to lift their head, they lay on their belly, they begin to roll, they get up on their hands and knees. They begin to go through locomotion. Every one of those sequences are so important. Your baby, at that time, did not read, did not write, and did not do mathematics. So those higher-brain levels are dependent upon what happens in the beginning.
So here at Connect My Brain, in the developmental program, we are looking at how did your child develop? We are trying to figure out where your child left off, which creates a neurological age compared to the chronological age, and then the goal is to fuse those two. But you have to go back and figure out where a child left off in order to bring them forward.
This is one of the areas, too, that we cannot use cookie-cutter programs. We have to look at your child as an individual because everybody is different. Every part of our program focuses on the individuality of that child or adult in order to look at them and see exactly what they need so that we can begin to change. We don’t want you living in therapy for your whole life. People come in here and they tell me how long they’ve been working on these issues. We are about getting to the root cause. We are about making a resolution. We are about bringing families back together. We are about making individuals whole and complete.
Neurofeedback Therapy: What to Expect
So I wonder if you’re coming in just for neurofeedback. Well, one of the things that we’re going to tell you right from the beginning, neurofeedback was never intended to be an isolated therapy. We do want to still discuss with you about nutrition, possible labs, exercises. But when you come in for neurofeedback, the first thing we’re going to do is a brain map, and that is literally we are going to take an EEG lead, move it around your head and figure out where your brain waves are out of frequency. And then from there, we make a plan. We also look at a stress response test so that we can figure out if you’re also in chronic stress.
Now, the word stress is used so liberally that we don’t often understand the impact that it’s really having on our body. It’s a physiological event. It changes gut function, it changes brain function, and if you are in a chronic pattern, this is who your brain thinks you are. So when we look at the stress response test and the brain map, we’re going to make recommendations from there. The average number of sessions needed in order to be successful with neurofeedback is typically 40 visits. Now, I’ve seen sometimes where we could get the work done in 30, I’ve also seen where it’s taken me up to 65. The point is, is that usually by the time we get past the first 20, in the adult population, primarily, you’re already seeing changes and you can see the benefits. Sometimes, the kids move a little bit faster than the adults because they get the software so much easier than an adult does. But we are here to create strategies, lead you on your way so that you can be successful.
What Do We Mean By Taking Care of the Whole Body?
We also support our families in every facet of this program. So our foundation is we’re going to look at the child developmentally, mechanical movements, the progression of movements, chemical, the labs. We want to know what’s going on inside of the body and the brain. We want to see what happens when we do a brain map. The nutritional program is very recommended. It’s one of our moms who just became a great warrior throughout this program and she’s done a fantastic job in learning how to change recipes around when one ingredient isn’t used because it might be part of the sensitivity food profile or it just may be a known allergen. We can adapt and change those recipes. So our nutrition program is another part of Connect My Brain. It’s separate, and you can sign up for either a particular service like you want help with grocery shopping, you want help with meal planning, or you may want the whole thing. So you’re allowed to select a certain item or the entire package.
Our goal is to help families make the food part easier. In 24 years of doing this kind of work, the food changes have been the greatest stumbling block for all families. So here at Connect My Brain, that is another avenue that we’ve tried to take the obstacles, get them out of the way, and help you to be successful on your path.
Child Development: The Role of the Parents Within the Program
Another question I often get is, what can I expect from participating in Connect my Brain’s program? Well, let me first break it down for the pediatric side.
There are some very important pillars that we have to accomplish throughout this program. One of the most important parts is to get the assessment done, decide if there are any labs that need to be done. If there are any labs that were taken within the last year, we can typically use those, get the labs done as quickly as possible.
As the results start to come in, I am going to be putting different recommendations into the program. The most important thing to do with those findings is to take action. Oftentimes, parents do many things to help their children, but they don’t follow through on every detail that needs to be done.
I think one of the areas that is most unfortunate is to spend a lot of money on labs and then do nothing with that information. The purpose of doing a lab is to figure out where the child’s physiology is either out of balance or deficient and then to make those recommendations. So, for example, if we do a vitamin-mineral and the child is deficient, you cannot eat enough food in order to change that deficiency. It has to come from supplementation.
The goal is to bring the child back into a place where they can eat, eat right, and get the vitamins and minerals that they need. However, our land is just not like it used to be. There are pesticides that are used, there are GMOs that are used, and we are not getting the same quality of food that we did decades before. So a key is, when you come in, this is a plan. We are a team, you and me, and the purpose of that is to get your child well, and we need to do the action steps in order to be successful.
